Introduction#

The goal of this application note is to provide a high level overview on what impact wireless coexistence can have on a real world wireless IoT application, and how that impact can be tested and quantified. This application note is relevant to anyone taking part in the development of a product that might be affected by coexistence. It is mainly targeted to engineers because of the technical language used, but product managers or similar roles can still benefit from the following sections:

  • Basics of Coexistence: Describes why coexistence is extremely important to take into consideration (in some products), and the most effective ways to counter its effects.

  • Test Setup and Methodology: Presents the measurement setup used for coexistence performance testing for this application note, with recommendations on what should be measured in a setup like this and why.

  • System Level Results: Presents some of the test results that support all of the statements made in this application note.

The test setup for this demonstration used Zigbee and Wi-Fi as the coexistent wireless protocols, but any other combination of Wi-Fi and a low power IoT protocol should present similar results.
