Bluetooth Direction Finding Fundamentals#

NOTE: This section replaces UG103.18: Bluetooth Direction Finding Fundamentals. Further updates to this user guide will be provided here.

Bluetooth Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Angle of Departure (AoD) are new technologies that establish a standardized framework for indoor positioning. With these technologies, the fundamental problem of positioning comes down to solving the arrival and departure angles of radio frequency signals. This guide explains the basics of these technologies and provides the theory behind estimating angle of arrival.

Silicon Labs’ Fundamentals series covers topics that project managers, application designers, and developers should understand before beginning to work on an embedded networking solution using Silicon Labs chips, networking stacks such as EmberZNet PRO or Silicon Labs Bluetooth, and associated development tools. These guides can be used as a starting place for anyone needing an introduction to developing wireless networking applications, or who is new to the Silicon Labs development environment.
