Simplicity Studio VS Code Extension 2.2.0 (Sep 2026) Release Notes#

Leverage the power of Visual Studio Code while staying fully integrated with Simplicity Studio 6. The Simplicity Studio extension supports build, flash, and debug operations directly within VS Code, while allowing you to continue using the familiar Simplicity Studio project configurator graphical user interface (GUI).

Release Summary#

Key Features#

Added in 2.2.0#

  • Added AI enablement through a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to support the Simplicity AI SDK. AI assistants, such as GitHub Copilot, can now drive build, debug, and project workflows directly from Visual Studio Code.

  • Improve interoperability between Simplicity Studio 6 and Visual Studio Code to provide more predictable, user-controlled workspace behavior when transitioning between these applications. Open folders and explicit user actions now determine which projects the extension detects. Improvements include a simplified workspace import flow, options to open and reveal projects in Studio, and automatic detection of projects created within an already open folder.
