SMP#

The Security Manager Protocol (SMP) establishes pairing (temporary key exchange and authentication), bonding (storing keys for later connections), and encryption on the link. The pages linked below cover pairing methods, the pairing flow, bonding behavior, and SMP-related APIs. Stack-level mention of SMP in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is in BLE architecture.

Security Features (Summary)#

  • Pairing Methods: Just Works, Numeric Comparison, and Passkey Entry are supported; Out-of-Band pairing is not supported (see Pairing and bonding).

  • Bonding: Secure storage of long-term keys for persistent connections.

  • Encryption: AES-128 encryption for data protection.
