Wi-Fi Commissioning Demonstration

For the demo purposes, the WF200/WFM200 concurrently exposes 2 Wi-Fi interfaces:

• A SoftAP (Software Enabled Access Point) interface to accept incoming connections from Wi-Fi Devices
• A Station interface to connect to Wi-Fi APs (Access Points)

The host supports a Web server which exposes a user-accessible Web page. 'Commissioning' means providing the AP's credentials to the Station over a temporary SoftAP connection from a Wi-Fi Device. This is achieved via the Web page.

At this moment:

• Your Device is not connected to the SoftAP (it may be connected to another AP)
• The SoftAP is waiting for a Device to connect
• The Station is not connected to any AP

Connecting to the SoftAP

When the SoftAP is started, you can join it with any Wi-Fi Device:

• On your Device, scan for Wi-Fi networks
• Select the silabs-pi-demo network
• Password: CHANGE_ME
• In a navigator, browse to http://192.168.5.1

From this Web page you can read and toggle the state of the onboard LEDs.

At this moment:

• Your Device is connected to the SoftAP
• The Station is not connected to any AP

Commissioning Web Page

The page allows:

• Control of the Raspberry Pi LEDs (used to confirm that you are connected to your kit)
• Control of the WF(M)200 Station:
  • Scan for nearby networks' APs
  • Connect to a selected AP
  • Disconnect from the AP

Scanning for Nearby Networks

In the 'Wi-Fi Access Point/Station' panel:

• Press Refresh Wi-Fi Scan Results to scan for surrounding APs
  • Existing Wi-Fi networks are listed at the bottom of the panel, with their SSID and reception level

At this moment:

• Your Device is connected to the SoftAP
• The Station is not connected to any AP yet

Connecting the Station to a Home/Office AP

• Select one Wi-Fi network AP
• Enter credentials (if required)
• Press Connect
• A popup window appears, indicating connection to the AP. Press OK to close it

The Station status says 'STA Connected' with:

• The Wi-Fi AP's SSID
• The Station's IP address on the Home Wi-Fi AP (once it's allocated)

Note: Store this IP address for the next steps.

The kit has been commissioned successfully.

At this moment:

• The Station is connected to the AP
• Your Device is still connected to the SoftAP

If you want to connect the Station to another AP, press 'Disconnect' first.

Indirect Communication with the Kit

• Connect your Device to the same AP you've connected the kit to
• Use the IP address you stored above to connect to the kit and access the Web page again

At this moment

• The Station is connected to the AP
• Your Device is not connected to the SoftAP anymore
• Your Device is indirectly connected to the kit via the AP
